I first read about POETRY SLAM in a workshop context, where people were invited to write 'badly' and loosen their self-criticism.
That caught my heart.
In searching info on it, AI pointed out 'poetry slams' specific structure and rules. I've adjusted those to fit this non-competitive context.
SUGGESTED STRUCTURE :
* Originality: It can be a poem or a body-based expression created by you – either in the moment or a draft prepared beforehand.
* Body sounds and movements: You can sing, use words, vocalize, move, beatbox, or snap your fingers, but no pre-recorded background music.
* Time limit: Each expression lasts approximately 3 minutes.
* No props or costumes: You cannot use objects, special clothing, or musical instruments. It’s just you and the microphone / or the open space.
* No judging or scores: but sensitive backup guaranteed
CONTENT / THEME can be anything close to your heart and driven by the impulse of the moment.
It may be inspired by the intend to seek to express from inner connectedness
E.g. it could be a mix of:
• Heart: humor, everyday observations or no-word impulses
• Vulnerability: love, personal crises, and processes.
• The Planet: society, the world, nature, and climate-oriented ~ how we exist within the chaos
• Intuitive expression / Channeling
WELCOMING ALL FORMS:
e.g.
• wordplay, rap and rhymes
• free body and vocal sounds, gibberish
• frequency of presence
Depending on who is present and the size of the group, there will be opportunities to take the floor more than once. We might expand it and include a tuning-in session, perhaps establish guidelines for fostering a non-judgmental atmosphere, or hold a circle and engage in other activities agreed upon collectively.
